The delegation from our Sister School, Estancia High in Costa Mesa, California arrived on Sunday morning to the cheers, hellos and hugs from over 50 students and families.
Day 1 – We made it!
The Eagles were warmly welcomed into the homes of their first hosts for the first week and a half. Sunday evening, the delegation were formally welcomed at a pot luck dinner at Mr Terrill’s home. On receiving their gift bags, the delegation proudly wrapped themselves up in the scarf of the team they will be barracking for on Friday evening, when they watch their first AFL game live at Australia’s home of sport, the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground), or as the locals call it ‘THE G’.
Day 2 – Welcome to HCSC!
After a full night’s sleep the delegation were again greeted on Monday morning, this time by the whole school at an assembly. Mr Halge led them on a tour around the College, before they had their first taste of an Australian class. Before the end of the day the Student Representative Council (SRC) presented them with their College jackets. (We trust this will keep them warm during our cold Melbourne winter!).
Day 3 – The Local Community
On Tuesday the delegation had the pleasure to visit our local CFA & Police Stations, having some hands on experience with a fire hose and police car. The Hoppers Club kindly supplied lunch before we took them on a tour of some of our display homes. The delegation were surprised at the cost of the homes being significantly cheaper than back home, leading to some even talking about moving to Australia later in their lives.
Day 4 – College Council Presentation
The delegation delivered their first of many presentations of this trip, which was viewed by around 100 students and went extremely well. They will present this again at tonight’s College Council meeting. Well done and good luck Eagles!
More to come on the adventures of the Estancia Eagles in the coming days.
