Dance & Wakakirri Programs
Dance students at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College have the opportunity to learn in a professional dance setting. Our studio is equipped with sprung wooden floors, mirrors and surround sound audio. There are a wide range of performance opportunities available to students including the Wakakirri Secondary School Competition and the State Schools Spectacular.
Year 9 & 10 Dance
Year 9 and 10 students can elect to undertake a semester of dance studies as part of our elective program.
Students study techniques for building choreography and creating original dance works. They are taught the essential skills to safely practice dance, and explore the development of a variety of styles. Students will also work towards developing their physical and expressive skills in dance and performance.
VET Dance (Year 11 & 12)
VCE and VM students have the opportunity to undertake VET Dance Studies. At the completion of two-year course, students will receive Certificate II in Dance and a study score that will contribute towards their VCE ATAR score.
This course provides students with an array of opportunities to perform in professional settings and includes a vast range of current industry knowledge. With technique classes and special guest workshops held in the dance studio, students will be able to receive professional feedback and training in their chosen style.
This pre-vocational course will prepare students to audition for further tertiary training in dance as a teacher, performer or choreographer.
Wakakirri Secondary School Competition
The Wakakirri Secondary Schools Competition is a national dance and drama production that offers students the opportunity to create original dance works and present them in a professional stage show.
2019 Wakakirri Production
This year our Wakakirri story is called, Be Careful what you Whisper, and is based on the damaging effects rumours can have on social media, and how it can negatively impact an individual and those around them.
